Bahía Carey Films and Funglode Films are part of the same group, led by Omar de la Cruz and Yvette Marichal, with two complementary roles. Bahía Carey Films makes films: it develops and produces Dominican feature films under Article 34 of Film Law 108-10, with results such as the 19 pre-nominations and the 2024 Goya Award nomination for La Ternura. Funglode Films focuses on consulting, structuring, technical and financial development, legal management, administration and comprehensive support for film projects, from structuring the project to its close. Together they offer investors, producers and institutions a single partner to bring a Dominican story to the screen.
FUNGLODE FILMS was born in 2001 in the Audiovisual Department of the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (FUNGLODE). Its origin reflects the vision, motivation and spirit of Dr. Leonel Fernández, founder of FUNGLODE, and his commitment to the visual arts, film and professional training in the Dominican Republic.
His interest in film led him to promote and enact Law 108-10 for the Promotion of Film Activity, a cornerstone for the development of the Dominican film industry. Natasha Despotovic, who led and supported these initiatives since FUNGLODE was founded, played a decisive role in turning that vision into projects and realities.
Jimmy Sierra, theorist and creator of the Diccionario Cultural Dominicano, also holds a special place in this story as a motivator and inspiration. Omar de la Cruz acknowledges his influence on his career and remembers how Jimmy Sierra first called him a producer, a title he has carried ever since as part of his identity and commitment to Dominican film.
Since 2021, FUNGLODE FILMS has operated as a company, continuing that purpose through consulting, structuring, technical and financial development, legal management, administration and comprehensive support for film projects, both Dominican and international.
This journey also includes the Global Multimedia Institute (IGM) and the Santo Domingo Global Film Festival: FUNGLODE initiatives that support training, creation and encounters around film.
To develop audiovisual projects of high artistic and content quality, and to contribute to Dominican cultural heritage with stories of historical, social and human value. This purpose is supported by the technical, legal, financial and administrative assistance that makes it possible to carry out and complete each production.
Training and capacity building in the audiovisual field are part of this institutional path, linking learning with filmmaking.

Bahía Carey Films is a Dominican production company founded in 2022 by Omar de la Cruz, Yvette Marichal, Héctor Aníbal Estrella and Kirsis Acevedo, who for about two decades have championed the development of film and the audiovisual arts in the Dominican Republic.
We were born with a clear vision: to become a key part of the growth of Dominican film, developing projects of high artistic and content quality that add to the country's cultural heritage through their historical, social and human value, and that can travel to festivals, theaters and platforms around the world.
Our work already shows visible results. La Ternura, a co-production between the Dominican Republic (Bahía Carey Films) and Spain (Pris & Batty Films), distributed by Universal Pictures International Spain, earned 19 pre-nominations and one Goya Award nomination in 2024, for Best Makeup and Hairstyling: a first for a Dominican co-production. It is joined by Sana y Salva, already released, and Vuelos prohibidos, directed by Rigoberto López Pego: an ICAIC production in collaboration with the Cuban Ministry of Culture and FUNGLODE, with Omar de la Cruz as executive producer. In development: 500 años después: la historia continúa, NEBULA, Evangelina, Leo e Isabel, Oasis, Memorias de Gascue and the fiction trilogy Dominicanidad: Diccionario Vivo, inspired by the Diccionario Cultural Dominicano and conceived as a tribute to Jimmy Sierra.
We focus exclusively on producing Dominican feature films. This focus allows us to structure each film under Article 34 of Film Law 108-10 and offer every investor a clear and transparent framework. Funglode Films is a Dominican company providing consulting and comprehensive support for film projects. It was born in 2001 in FUNGLODE's Audiovisual Department and began operating as a company in 2021. It belongs to the same group as Bahía Carey Films, led by Omar de la Cruz and Yvette Marichal, and is registered with the DGCINE (Dominican Film Office) as a technical film services company, under SIRECINE number AC-ES 12707.
While Bahía Carey Films focuses exclusively on producing films, Funglode Films does not offer executive production as such: it focuses on consulting, structuring, technical and financial development, legal management, administration and comprehensive support for film projects, Dominican and foreign, from the creation of the production company to its close before the DGCINE.
Its previous productions include La Montaña and Del fondo de la noche, works that enrich Dominican cultural heritage through their historical and cultural value.
It is involved in 500 años después: la historia continúa (originally 1521), a documentary in development with One Race Global Foundation about the 500th anniversary of the first rebellion of enslaved Africans in the Americas, and in Bidó: la dominicanidad en lienzos, in development with Ikefilmo Producciones and Hoku Film House.
Funglode Films offers comprehensive consulting, structuring, development, administration and support services for Dominican and international film projects. It can take over part or all of a production's back office, so the creative team can focus on the work while Funglode Films manages the technical, legal, financial and administrative structure. It supports every stage of the project:
incorporation of the production company (S.R.L., E.I.R.L. or S.A.S.), bylaws, Commercial Registry and tax ID, corporate structure, investor pitch deck, financial model and tax incentive strategy.
script registration with ONDA (Dominican copyright office), rights assignment agreements, contracts with writers, producers and investors, non-disclosure agreements and legal review of documentation.
film budget, script breakdown, shooting schedule, overall timeline, cash flow and financial plan.
